Video Summary
A fleet-industry panel at Atlas Conference explored how rising costs, new technologies, and operational pressures are reshaping fleet management. Participants said replacement decisions are moving beyond fixed age-and-mileage rules to consider maintenance trends, utilization, resale values, downtime, safety, and business needs. With budgets increasingly difficult to forecast, fleets are focused on controlling total cost of ownership and getting more from existing vehicles.

Connected-vehicle data can improve utilization, uptime, maintenance planning, driver safety, and remarketing, but organizations need to turn large volumes of data into actionable decisions. Panelists described AI as a practical tool for productivity and analysis, with more advanced AI agents likely to emerge—provided they have strong business-specific safeguards and human oversight.

Fragmented supply chains and multiple vendor handoffs create delays and reporting silos. Greater end-to-end ownership and better data integration could streamline processes. Maintenance costs and technician shortages remain concerns, though one provider said strong pay and benefits helped attract technicians.

Electrification has slowed rather than stopped. Cost, infrastructure, vehicle availability, and payload requirements continue to limit adoption, while connected data can help identify suitable vehicles and support EV operations and resale. Panelists urged fleets to plan strategically, collaborate with partners, experiment, and position fleet as a business function—not merely a support function.
